The Palene is a specialized vessel, often carried by the Spartacus class battle tender in place of one of its Crixus or Oenemus class battleriders. A 14,000-ton complex of interlinked fuel tanks holds enough fuel to fully refuel either a Crixus or an Oenemus; the inboard purifiers can process the lot in 12 hours. Due to being just under half comprised of fuel tanks, the Palene has little or no space for offensive weapons. Ninety turrets are carried, primarily as a defence against missiles; the ship does carry state-of-the-art nuclear dampers and meson screens.
