The Barratt class ordanance tender is intended to ride with a fleet, providing resupply of missile ammunition to the elements of the fleet. The ship is completely dedicated to this task, and between its Jump-5 capability and massive missile stores there is no room for "extras". As a result the ship is completely unarmed, and totally dependent upon the fleet's escorts for defence and fuel. The ship carries 2,430,000 HE missiles and 2,160,000 atomic missiles. These are sectioned off into 10-ton magazines, seperated by thick walls and fanatically protected from possible ignition. The whole design of the ship is based arounf this concept. All the control and crew areas are right forward, protected from the cargo by an armour-10 firewall. The missile cargo occupies the centre of the vessel, and the engineering sections are appended to the back. A long lift shaft connects the two live zones, and during the normal course of events nobody enters the hold at all; the cargo handler robots are the only occupants. All interior walls in the ship are bulkhead, armoured to USP 2 rather than the usual 0. The unarmed and hazardous nature of the class have earned it the nicknames "Barratt's Folly" and "The Flying Bomb". Assignment to the ship is one of the least popular stints in the Navy, and at least one of the medical officers is always a fully-trained psychiatrist in order to cope with the massive stress of flying an unarmed ship full of bombs.
