House Rules
These are changes we've made to the Mongoose 2e rules, either because we disagree and prefer older usage, or because it seemed to be a good idea.
Reputation
The party as a whole will have a "Police" stat for each world, which will generally apply to "the authorities" and go up or down depending on how they act. Most worlds it will start at 8 (no bonus, unknown). If they want to get something out of the authorities they can roll on that with Persuade or Diplomat as the GM decides.
Combat
- Any 2 players whose characters are in direct communication may trade initiative at the beginning of the round (Imported from the Alien RPG)
- RAW have Auto Fire and Aiming as exclusive; when using Full Auto, an Aim action may be applied to the first attack roll, before any recoil takes effect
- A character with a Stunner may apply a 'coup de grace' to an opponent reduced to 2 stats at 0 or otherwise immobilized. This is a full-round action and removes the subject from combat for the duration.
Spacecraft Operations
- Berthing cost as shown P225 is per week. Subsequent weeks are charged half. Charge includes access to PAN.
- The rules state Life Support "Cr1000 per stateroom, Cr3000
for double occupancy, Cr100 per
low berth, Cr1000 per person" which seems fine, then adds Cr1000 / person on top, which seems excessive. That second charge is dropped.
- We played MegaTraveller for decades, and got really used to Neutrino sensors and their detection of power plants. Now, modern science has decreed that this is impossible and they've vanished from the game RAW. However, by today's science, Jump Drive, Grav Plates and Inertial Dampers are also impossible, and they are in. So I'm keeping my Neutrino sensors, thanks all the same. They're just integrated with the Passive array.
Space Combat
- RAW state that a turret with mixed weapons can only use one type per combat round. Given a round is 6 minutes long, and beam, sand and missiles are fired at fairly differing stages, this rule is discarded. However, a mixed turret can only make one Attack and one Defence in a round.
