The caster can learn information about magical items and effects. The caster automatically gains a basic awareness of magic in operation, and a good idea of the number of points of magic involved. Additionally, Identify allows the caster to attempt to overcome the MP of the spell/effect (or the total POW required to create the item) in order to learn what spells are in operation. 5 or more points of Identify, plus success at the above roll, will provide some information on the caster/creator.
