Eloy in Vorsand

Vorsand, Tarlanor, 31st July 1655

DM Note: This log covers some email actions from Eloy around session 66 which was a Gorfang Special. The players all know what happened - but the characters don't (yet!).

The next morning, Eloy was up and doing early. On his way out of the palace he stopped at the commercial arm of the Dark Tower and arranged to hire the services of a spellcaster capable of scrying, as well as purchasing some scrolls of Teleport. Then he headed on down into town with several aims in mind. After looking around a little, he chose the scribe Alfira, based near the Guildhall, and left her with his handwritten draft of the Book of Sabath to get written up; four small unexceptional copies, and a big impressive tome with illuminations and brass hinges.

Dragon Tooth

Leaving her to work, he wandered into the trade district, and into the shop of one Odicellum, jeweller. Handing him eleven white dragon teeth, he paid to have these mounted into white gold mounts and strung on fine chains. He didn't tell the man what they actually were; no point taking chances! He lunched while they were made, and returned to pick them up later.

Back in his rooms, he laid out what items of significance to his God that he had, and prayed deeply, trying to recapture the moment of inspiration that had made Milani's pendant. Such things happen only once in a lifetime, though, and although he was pretty sure the bloodied necklaces were now unsanctified to Sabath, they hadn't the strange power of the original. Maybe in time though.

Omina

Returning, he found that the wizard was waiting for him at his quarters, and he invited her in and poured her wine while she set up her crystal ball. Then he carefully described Setram the dragon to her - the sharpness of remembered terror making his memories clear - and watched tensely while she cast her spell. A few moments later, a small image of the Dragon of Amberlan appeared in the crystal sphere.

Setram

Setram looked around at the spell's sensor point instantly; no creature of his power was ever scried at unawares. He was underground, in a place Eloy didn't recognize, a cave with crystals in the walls. As soon as contact was made, the dragon snarled "Who dares intrude?" Eloy began passing his prepared words to Omina to relay to the dragon.

"Lord Setram, mightiest of Dragons, it is Eloy, your ally aforetime in the battle with the fae mhor of Amberlan. I have heard rumour that you have been foully robbed, and felt it my duty as your ally to inform you of what I know."

"Your hoard was ravaged by the orc, Gorfang Deathdrinker, and Lynien Savanoth the professional thief! Most of it now lies in the vaults of a bank, but they have choice items with them. I know not exactly where they are now." This was true of course; Lynien might have got up and gone shopping or be in the bath (again) and who knew how far the Hammer and Gorfang had walked!

"It goes without saying that Méabh and I had naught to do with this, Lord Dragon," he continued blithely. He had no fear that Gorfang would feel threatened or endangered; he had absolute confidence, as had the orc, that setting the dragon on Gorfang was a death sentence for the dragon. Sabath's demon had made it clear that his in extremis rescues would not resume until the price of the last was paid - the death of the Dragon of Amberlan. Eloy was nervous of Méabh, though, and wanted to make absolutely sure that she didn't think he'd blamed her for the burglary.

Setram listened to what Eloy had to say, only an increased flow of smoke from his jaws and nostrils betraying his state of mind. At the end, his teeth ground with fury, and he spoke again. "My thanks, turncoat, for this information. Your reward is your life; I shall not pursue you for your undoubted part in this theft. As to your punishment for invading my privacy, however...." He lifted a talon and moved the claws carefully.

Next to Eloy, Omina's head exploded suddenly and without warning, spraying Eloy in blood, brains and bits of bone. The image of Setram vanished immediately, and the crystal dimmed, leaving Eloy sitting stunned in the dark, wondering how he was going to explain this...
