Ancient creatures, the armoured bears were known to the elves, but very few elves ever won their respect. One who did was Elverandil the Smith, on account of his peerless metalworking skills. He it was taught them the secret of working adamantite, the starsteel, of which their unique armour is made. Each bear warrior forges his own, to fit himself and no other.
In return for the secret, Elverandil entrusted the Panserbørnë with the guardianship of the Valca Gate, the link to and lock on Arnora, the demiplane wherin Cain is imprisoned.
