The
Morning After
24/2/10,122 - Brev
Bags packed, extended family in tow, Illyra, Tharla & Brasso head off under Kilite's guidance to the temple of Jirre.
Forcing the secured door they make themselves as comfortable as they can, eat & try to get some rest confident that their whereabouts cannot be traced.
As Illyra listens to the sounds of the city waking she decides she can wait no longer & shaking the others awake informs them she is going to go check the family home. Walking down the street, at first glance all looks well but as she enters the yard she see's the wagon positioned against the front wall of the house, before she can react she is startled by a shouted challenge. Turning, two city guards, one to either side, step out from the shelter of the pillars to either side of the gate.
Demanding to know who & what she is doing she bleats out a storey about calling to see her friend, Illyra's sister, Sylveth, to sse if she is coping after the arrest of her husband yesterday. At first doubtful of her story they eventually pursuaded & tell her in no uncertain terms to sling her hook. Relieved & thankful she hurries from the yard, but once across the street enters the house of a neighbour she has come to know in order to watch what's happening.
Unbeknownst to these events Molin wakes & searches for clothes more suitable to his frame, hearing voices from the yard glances out of the roof light & seeing Illyra accosted by two guards makes all speed through the house & bursts through the open door into the yard. About to charge & free Illyra he is astounded when there is no sign of her, only two startled guards, spears levelled at his midriff. Quickly he tries his hand at acting, slowing to a walk & yawning, rubbing his eyes he stretches & humbly begs to know what's happening.
Unarmed & remembering his last encounter, he instantly follows the two fellows bellowed command & drops to the dirt, face down, jumpy after Illyra's entrance, this time they take no chances & discount Molin's pathetic excuses. Watched by the first warden the second heads for the wagon to to collect rope to secure their captive.
Lying face down Molin can see the feet of the second trooper as he climbs into the wagon, where the hell was Illyra & what the fuck was he going to do this time.
Across the street Illyra could see something was happening but not enough to know exactly what, thanking her neighbour she again crosses the street & peers around the gate, seeing Molin, face in the dirt, she knows she must act but with no weapon to hand she is doubtful she can improve the situation. Turning to her arcane abilities she successfully casts a spell of befuddlement on the trooper whose spear is levelled at Molin. As his spear hits the dirt he looks around bewildered as to why is he here, as the second warden jumps down from the wagon he to is struck by a second spell of befuddlement & stands starring at the rope as it falls from his fingers.
Realising something is wrong, Molin glances over his shoulder to see Illyra at the gate grinning at him, bellowing about a fire in the house, pleading for the guards to help, Illyra & Molin hurriedly leave the yard as one of the guards begin to raise buckets of water from the well & the second rushes through the door into the house.
Back at the chapel, Tharla puts aside the mirror of farseeing relieved that both Illyra was safe & the wayward Molin was returned unharmed.
Later as they sit in the chapel rectory they listen incredulously to J's concocted story about his exploits the previous night. Eventually they wheel out the truth of the story of his drunken fumbling. The friends then question Illyra's family about leaving the city, they are adamant however that they do not want to leave despite what has happened.
Brasso throws in that he to is to leave their company & linger a while longer in Brev, so he will keep an eye on Illyr's family.
The four then turn to their own plans, deciding to travel to the frozen realms of the Rampart Mountains to search for the legendry remains of Athalau, Erimmes home.
Deciding the journey will be to slow if they continue with the wagon they agree to leave it behind, Illyra must search out a new riding dog & Kilite has no mount at all, also they must decide what to leave, as without the wagon their possessions, even with a pack dog or two are not conducive to speedy flight if required.
