Siku
In 1921 the Seiper family in Lüdenscheid, started making aluminium cutlery followed by tobacco tins, matchstick boxes, ashtrays, powder-boxes etc over the years the range was expanded to include buttons, belt buckles & plastic figures. In 1950 we saw the first mention of the SIKU (Sieper Kunststoffe) brand at the Nuremberg Toy Fair where a range of farm animals & figures were successfully exhibited. The expansion into the toy market was successful & in 1951 they produced their first plastic vehicle, a fire engine, closely followed by a racing car, a amphibious car & a truck. In 1963 die cast production commenced & in 1984 Wiking Modellbau became part of the SIKU group, the idea being "When SIKU customers grow up the Wiking models take over" SIKU continue today under the third generation Seiper family producing a huge range of specialist agricultural & construction models.
In the main SIKU don't manufacture model cars however the Landrover creeps into their range by virtue of its agricultural connections & maybe, just maybe, because its now German owned following BMW's acquisition a few years ago, either way it comes along with the rest of the farming paraphernalia that they produce.
If were going to split hairs then I suppose "real collectors" would call the Landrover they manufacture a toy, not a scale model, personally I think that s a pile of crap, get a life, its not a real Landrover, there all toys & we're all big kids.
